This is a ski mat. Small hand-drawn scenes in the toile style, a skier in a red one-piece carving down the hill, two friends on the chairlift, a snowboarder off a kicker, an A-frame chalet with skis by the door, a station wagon with skis on the roof, four women in ski sweaters playing mahjong by a stone fireplace, scattered across an icy blue field inside a pine and berry garland and a steel blue border. Navy line with touches of red, pine green, pink and yellow. Apres ski if you like that word, cozy cabin if you like this one. It reads as decor first and a game mat second, which is the point. WALL LEFT and PLAY RIGHT are printed in the border at every seat, so the Charleston never needs explaining.

WHY SHE LOVES IT
• The girls' ski weekend, on the table, for the eleven months a year she is not on the mountain.
• Soft printed top holds the tiles and the non-slip rubber backing grips the table, so nothing slides when someone pushes a wall.
• Rolls up and stores in the black drawstring bag it ships with, so it packs for the cabin.
• Ice blue field keeps ivory tiles looking crisp, not yellow, under lamplight.
